🌸 Sisterhood, Screenplays, and Self-Care: 4 Female Friendship Books That Deserve a Movie (and a Spot in Your Wellness Routine)

I’ve been lucky enough to have my best friend since I was 7—we met, complimented each other’s hair, and that was it. 💕 Thirty-four years later, we’re still hyping each other up like it’s our full-time job. From awkward school dances to bad breakups, she’s been my ride-or-die through it all. One of the things we bonded over was a love of reading along with pop culture.

We've read so many incredible books about female friendships that still haven’t hit the big screen—and trust me, they need to. Don't get me wrong, I love the iconic movie friendships of Romy and Michele, Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, or The Sweetest Thing, but these book heroines are too amazing to stay off-screen.

Here are four book-to-movie dreams I’m manifesting from the Canna Bella Garden:

📚 🌞 Summer Sisters by Judy Blume This one’s haunting and unforgettable. From carefree summers on Martha’s Vineyard to adulthood’s complexities, Vix and Caitlin’s bond is full of love, loyalty, and betrayal—pure cinematic gold. You'll root for them, cry for them, and maybe even text your childhood BFF when you're done.

🎬 Dream Cast: Zendaya as Caitlin and Lili Reinhart as Vix. Bonus points if Glen Powell plays a dreamy summer love interest.

📚 💼 Smart Women by Judy Blume This book makes me want to be back in ‘80s Boulder, sipping wine in a hot tub with my besties. Following Margo, B.B., and Claire as they face divorce, dating, and complicated friendships, their messy yet fiercely loyal bond is the heart of the story.

🎬 Dream Cast: Stephanie Beatriz, Mandy Moore, and Jean Smart, glasses of wine in hand.

📚 🌹 The Wallflowers Series by Lisa Kleypas Think Bridgerton, but with besties! Four society "misfits" form a fierce sisterhood, helping each other break free from Victorian-era expectations—and yes, they all fall in love along the way. Expect gown montages, secret rendezvous, and slow-burn romances galore.

🎬 Dream Cast: Joey King, Keke Palmer, Lana Condor, and Dove Cameron as our badass Wallflowers.

📚 👑 The Selection Series by Kiera Cass If The Bachelor and The Hunger Games had a baby in designer gowns, this would be it. America Singer navigates palace politics, rivalries, and complicated friendships—all while competing for the heart of a prince.

🎬 Dream Cast: Mckenna Grace as America, with Florence Pugh as her sassy sidekick.

💬 Which one would you watch first? Which books besties do you suggest?

Because here’s the thing—friendships aren’t just about laughs and happy hours. Meaningful connections are even linked to longevity and better immune function, giving those friendships even more power to support your well-being. The best friendships hold space for you to grow, cry, and show up as your most authentic self. They celebrate your wins, help you rebuild after your losses, and remind you of your power when you forget. ❤️

And science agrees! Female friendships don’t just fill your heart—they literally protect it:

🌸 Lower Risk of Chronic Illness: Strong social connections can reduce heart disease risk by up to 50%.

🌸 Improved Mental Health: Friendships boost dopamine and serotonin, lowering depression and anxiety rates.

🌸 Better Immune System: Emotional support helps regulate cortisol levels, improving immunity.

🌸 Longer Lifespan: People with strong social ties are 50% more likely to live longer.

So those coffee dates and catch-up calls? Consider them essential self-care. ✨
